I decided to have the gastric sleeve! My surgery date is June 14th. I am so excited and also terrified even though I know I need it. How did the rest of you feel? Any advice or words of wisdom to calm my nerves? It was made official today. I look forward to sharing my journey and offer words of encouragement to others as I progress in this process. Thankss to all have replied to my previous posts.

I am happy for you!! I am going through the process of making a similar decision so I don't have any words of wisdom, but I do want to encourage you in your journey.

It is definitely a crazy mix of emotions going through this process. I look forward to reading more about your experiences.

It's perfectly normal for you to be anxious. If anyone says they didn't feel a bit nervous at one point they have nerves of steel. This is a game changing decision you made, you should be proud of yourself. Pre-op I wasn't too nervous until the two-week pre-op diet, it became "real" for me then.

I kept myself busy by starting a work out/walking routine pre-op and watching what I ate. I read as much as I could and tried to keep my expectations realistic.

Even though I was really nervous right before surgery, looking back now it was a cake walk. The hard work begins after surgery and it is totally worth it. I don't suck wind when I exercise anymore, I fit in to a size jean I haven't worn since high school and much much more.

Good luck! Some advice: Don't put off losing weight. Go ahead now and try to lose as much as you can before surgery. You will thank me later. So many people don't and then struggle after the surgery. If you can, go ahead and start your pre-op diet or something close to it. If you can go into surgery already being over with your carb withdrawals then you will have a great advantage over those people who did not do such.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
