Right Side Flank Pain into the groin

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am 1 week post op from my gastric bypass. Since day 3, I have been experiencing EXTREME right flank, side and groin pain. My surgery was performed laparoscopic. Most of my actual surgical pain on my left side has resolved. But when I lay on my back or sides at all, my right side has awful pain. 10 out of 10.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so could you please share ur knowledge. Thank you

Desperately,

Carre

I'm 2 weeks post op.

If I had the pain that you're describing I'd get myself checked out asap. It may not be anything to worry about, but it's best to get a doctor to see you to be sure.

If you had your op privately, do you have a post-op package? I've got a fantastic package with Tonic which includes contact with a bariatric nurse who I can phone any time. If you have anything similar, contact them.

I experienced similar pain - not in my groin but definitely on my right side. I took my pain meds prior to going to bed each night and really couldn't sleep in the bed for more than a couple of hours and definitely not more than 45 minutes on my right side. I ended up spending most of the first two weeks sleeping in my recliner. I didn't sleep through the night until a month out.

Thank you!

That relieves some of the worry.

You should definitely report this to your surgeon asap even if you're no longer worried. Any extreme pain is definitely on the list of things to notify the doctor about.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
