I know how that goes. Day 2 and 3 I was horribly moody, achy, and didn't feel like moving

I am on day 7 of my preop surgery. I have been so hungry all the time. I haven't lost any weight. Feel weak and can't sleep. I am following it exactly. About to break and eat mashed potatoes. Still 12 days away from surgery. I can't take it. Is it really that bad to eat something soft like mashed potatoes?

The goal of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver so cheating will delay that process. Pre-op diets vary, but most are intended to be an uber low carb diet. It takes a few days for your body to get into ketosis. If you cheat your body pretty much has to start over again. My doctor made no qualms about it - if he got in there and saw a fatty liver (which meant you didn't follow the diet) he would stop the surgery right then and there. The smaller the liver is the easier it is for the procedure which means it's safer for you. Is mashed potatoes worth it?

My surgeon doesn't do a preop diet !

Just the day before surgery I can't have food..... only liquids ......which is TODAY !! Yay!

Surgery is tomor!!!

I have been doing a version of preop diet anyway for like a week and whoa....

It really affects my mood ect

I feel I have the flu a little !! Headaches!

Hang in there with the preop diet - you'll be so happy you did!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
