Looking for some people who understand

Recommended Posts

This is my first post on this forum. I am almost 7 years post surgery- April of 2009. I went into surgery weighing 344lbs. As of this morning I am 236lbs, not my lowest, but the lowest I have been in about 3 years. I got to 222 in 2010 and then stalled. Fast forward a couple of years, I was back to a high of 265!

I had quite a bit of early success- I felt that my brain was at least 6 months behind my body. They are now finally in synch, but it was not pleasant... I think this is one of the biggest issues that wasn't talked about in my pre/post surgery meetings.

As I have become more active, I've had to have surgery to repair one of my very flat feet. Ironically, losing weight accelerated the disintegration of my feet.

I've also had to deal with the ebb and flow of the hormones- not just from the surgery but the pre-menopause fun also.

I've also dealt with some addiction issues- for a long period of time alcohol- specifically wine filled a void that I thought I had.

At this point I'm in the gym 5-6 days a week, energy flowing better that it ever has, but emotionally I'm a disaster.

Just looking for people to talk with about all the crazy that's going in in my brain.

Thanks!

I'm sorry to hear that you are not where you hoped to be.

I think you have made a very valid point. A lot of us gained weight or were always heavy due to addiction/self medicating. The surgery will not make the addiction go away. All it is is a tool to help you from being hungry.

I too have super crappy feet now. Although I still carry weight in my rib cage, my feet and ass are both void of any sort of cushioning. My husband has leather seats in his car. You can tell where I sit as I have made two permanent dents in the seat from the ass bones poking thru.

I will sadly say that I have learn many things about myself during this journey.

First a high point. I have been very successful with my surgery. I am so thankful that ins covers it.

But, The surgery will not make you unaddicted. It will not improve your marriage, your body image, your work, relationships with others or anything. All it will do is help you to not be hungry so you eat less. If you allow head hungry to rule then you will sadly pay the price.

I too was having some emotional issues this past year. Both my kids went away to college and I was just having some real anger issues. I tried Wellbutrin with no luck. Finally I just decided to stop fighting it and take the Vit B12. It has made a decent change. Now mind you I rock my blood work all the time. I have no low levels of anything. But I am reactive Hypoglycemic.

I guess if you are still suffering with addiction issues, spend some time being introspective. Find out what is the thing your are self medicating. Without identifying the core issue you cannot escape the pattern. I have really had to do some serious soul searching these past few years. Doing so has allowed me to be a more loving person to the people in my life who deserve my best. I have a long way to go, but at least I am more honest with myself.

Good luck. If you need someone to IM, feel free.

Exactly what has been said above. I am very successful woth my weight loss, I lost 132#'s in 6 months. I gained back around 8#'s. But i have mainyained my weight loss of 124#'s for 3 years. I also have a few issues with my tailbone and I never had any problems with my knees until I had lost all of my weight. My PCP told me taht if I hadn't lost my weight I would be in a wheelchair. I have arthrotos in both knee's and degenterive bone loss. I have had ultrasound guided Gel put in my knee's but it didn't last very long. I just went back in and had steroid shot in my right knee. My insureance will not pay for any more Gel. I also have discovered a few things about myself. YES I am addicted to food but since my RNY food just doesn't hold the same pleasure as before. I hate to eat now!! I would much rather drin my calories. NOT good and I don't because I don't want to get sick. I take my vutamins faithfully. But just beaware it takes a long time for a Vitamin defeciate to show up in our blood work. Good luck and if you need to talk just let me know. I don't know if I can help but I will sure try.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
