When were you able to drink a glass of water?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

Im 12 days out and everything seems to be going just fine.. except drinking Water.

Water makes my stomach so heavy, it just doesnt sit well. I feel thristy all the time and miss havibg a glass of water :(

I know i can have other drinks but it bugs to always have a sweet flavor in my mouth.

I never thought i say this but the only thing i have cravings for is Water!!

Please share if you had the same complication and if it ever went away? Also what do you drink at this stage instead of pure water?

I know exactly how you feel... Water hurts!!

I've been flavouring mine with lemon, orange or lime cordial (not sure what the US calls it) but get sick of the sweet flavour.

Yesterday I cut a fresh lime into wedges and that helped immensely. I was able to consume 700ml of Water in just under an hour whilst waiting for a blood test.

A nurse told me that adding cordial etc changes the pH of the water and makes it easier to digest.

Hope that helps!

I had a very difficult time drinking plain Water. I had to drink propel or Vitamin water. It wasn't until year two post op that I could tolerate plain water.

Water is hard for me too, I have been drinking mostly Decaf tea since surgery and plain Water still doesn't feel good. At this point I'm grateful to be able to drink an actual drink rather then just a tiny sip. It has also been super hard to not drink while I eat, i am really struggling with that

At four months out, I still struggle with plain Water, especially if it's cold. I, too, don't like drinking sweet drinks. I drink a lot of tea. I also make my americanos with extra Water.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
