Pre-op diet, lost 20# in less than 2 months, feeling great....but.....

Recommended Posts

I've had my cycle for 6 weeks straight! It lets up a little, then it's Niagara Falls for a few days, lets up, then BOOM. I heard that hormones change when you stop carbs and go high protein- but, really this is insane. I used to have horrible cycles, so I got the Mirena IUD- which made my cycle pretty much non-existent, now it's like all that time I had nothing is catching up to me. No PMS, no cramping, nothing...except box after box of Super+ Kotex.

Anyone else have this issue pre-op or post-op?

Thanks!

I'm post-menopausal, but I've heard of people having crazy cycles post-op. Some say it's because you're flooded with hormones since estrogen is stored in fat cells. It *sounds* logical, at least...

Oh no. ???? Did you have the Mirena removed prior to surgery?

My time is NOW!

I have the Mirena too. I've had it replaced twice now - had it for 10 years. About a week post-op, I had my first period in about five years. It was really light, but it was there.

Oh and a word to the wise. Sudden weight loss can make you extra fertile. I had a friend who was doing Medifast with me who was infertile. The doctors didn't know why, but she just was infertile. she adopted two kids over the years. They were like 8 and 4 when she started MF. Three months later she was pregnant. guess what - rapid weight loss changes your hormones.

Anyway - call your doctor and see if there is anything they can do for you until your hormones even out.

I had an episode pre-op like this.Oh God was it awful. It would stop a day and restart. It was related to my progesterone. After surgery I had another spell where my cycle changed to every 22 days.It finally got back to normal after 6 months. It was like perimenopause.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
