Port and Period

Recommended Posts

Hi gang. The past couple months that i have had my period my port gets really sore and swollen. I attributed it to my period anyway since it starts 5 or 6 days before and lasts through the end of it.

This time however it's swollen more than it has ever been. i can actually look down and see my flesh bulged out there. Now i might have irritated the last couple days using the exercise bike which might have made it more swollen, but i'm a little worried. I have no trouble eating or anything like that. It's just the swelling mainly. Should i rush to the doctor, or give it a week til my period is over and any irritation i caused with the bike has a chance to go down...

Finally hit a weight loss of 120 pounds today! I can't believe it!

Thanks!

virginia

This does rather odd to me. I think that you should phone your bariatric surgeon's office and ask about this. Once you find out what is going on, please post the info here. I am very curious. Good luck to you, grrl.

Purple! You've lose 120 pounds! :clap2: Thats amazing. And without a fill? Do you feel restricted even without it?

As for your port, I would def call the doc, that's what they're there for. Not sure what a flipped port would feel like, but being so swollen that it pokes out, that requires a doc's opinion, I think.

Yeah i still feel pretty restricted so I haven't had any problems with food. I will say though that when i don't go to the gym I don't lose anything. My body seems to need the gym to jumpstart my metabolism on a daily basis.

I still have a couple days of period left and no change on the swelling so i put a call into my doc today. The nurse practitioner will be calling me back this afternoon. I hope it's nothing serious. I'm having no problem with food, so I'm hoping it's only a port thing and not a band thing.

Purple - I have the same thing happening with my port when I'm having my period. My port is normally very, very sensitive. I'm constantly aware of it. The port is the only thing I hate about being banded. About 3 days before my period, it starts feeling like the port is trying to push out of my body the swelling and pressure are so great. It's truly miserable. I can't sleep on my stomach or even my left side when I'm having my period.

Let us know what the doctor says. I hope it's nothing serious.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
