Numbness of tougue...

Recommended Posts

Hello Group,

I had my surgery on 09/04/07 and after my surgery the tip and upper portion of my tougue has been numb. The Doctor said it should wear off in the couple days following the surgery, yet, it is a week later and I still have the numbness. He said it is anesthesia side effect.

My question...has anyone experience this same side effect? If so, how long did it last?

:help:

So far all has went for me...the only other side effect I have is the gas, especially in the left shoulder - chest area. And I'm really bloated...

Also, I just found this site the other day and let just say it has became a really good friend/support system for me!!!

Keep up the thread posting!

P.S.

I think I ready for other liquid beside clear...what's a girl to do???

I just looked this up yesterday on the internet because my tongue is also numb. I just started to notice and I have been banded for over 3 months. On the net, the closest answer I could come up with is that it has something to do with being anemia so I thought that was the answer because I was told to take Iron and havent so I thought this was just a sign that I better get my iron pills. But now that you mention the same thing maybe it is band related?

Thank you for violeteyes.

Have you begun talking your Iron yet?

Update: The numbness is slightly disappearing. I had my first follow up on Teusday and my doctor told me I was first case he seen like this. I told him I will call him in a couple of weeks if it does not disappear. I will keep you posted.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
