Workdesk friendly foods?

Recommended Posts

Hi!!

My surgery is scheduled for Nov. 24th. And I'm wondering what kind of foods you guys typically find easiest to bring to work with you and eat at your desk post-op. During ALL stages. Lol. Clear Liquids, full liquids, mushies, puréed...etc.

I'm just trying to plan ahead how I'm going to get my Protein in while I'm at work.

Also, what Protein powders or supplements do you recommend? Is dairy free best?

Thank you!!

Bars can be easily stashed at a desk. I was out of work for my liquids phases. I kept applesauce (don't refrigerate it first) and g2 at my desk. Also, some pre mixed Protein shakes don't requirements refrigeration. I keep 3 or so on hand for what I call hunger emergencies (when I only had a few bites of Soup for lunch, and everything is closed at 330 lol).

I have the luxury of working for a very large company and we have about a dozen places to eat on our campus.

How long were you out of work? I'm planning on being out for 2 weeks.

Not long enough! I should have taken my full 6 weeks of coverage. 2 weeks, then a week of half days.

Which surgery are you having? I had the gastric bypass and was only out a week.

I had access to a fridge at work and kept yogurt in there, Jello, Protein drinks (Isopure, Syntrax nectar, etc.). Soups also work if you have a microwave.

I'm having the Mini Gastric Bypass.

You felt good enough to go back after a week? That gives me hope!

Everyone is different! But, yes I was back after a week. I have a desk job which makes it easier to do. I was tired more than anything else. But everyone is different.

What exactly makes it a "mini" bypass?

With a mini, there is only one anastomosis of the intestines, rather than two. Supposedly that cuts down on complications, and recovery time.

I had to do some serious studying up on it. The long-term outlook is good, based on studies.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
