I'm still in the prep phase of VSG, with a surgery 2/2017. I'm an RN in a hospital and there is no "light duty" for us. So they're saying I'll have to be out of work for 6 weeks... I'm new to this hospital and I don't know if they'll give me the time off... I really don't want something like this to hold me back...

I went back to work on the 7th day post op. My work was primarily desk. There isn't a reason other than weight restrictions that would have stopped me from doing my regular job. I'm a supervisor for the drivers for an oxygen and respiratory company as well as managing our warehouse. I saw no reason why I couldn't be on the road as well other than those pesky weight restrictions. I say pesky because my boss had the surgery a year before me and she called my surgeon and had him specifically stress the restrictions.

Yeah, I actually work on the unit my surgeon sends all his patients, so I'm hoping he makes them work with me on the restrictions. Temp disability sucks, I know, because I was on it for a broken ankle 6 months ago :/ The state of NJ likes to stick you wherever they can.

I returned after 2 weeks. I could have returned earlier but was in an accident on the interstate and caused some complications. I was glad to be off the first couple of weeks.

I had several nurses in my support group and they returned after 2 weeks. You could probably return sooner, but listen to your body.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
