September bandsters Progress

Hey poohlvr, I am feeling better but not 100 %. Today was the first day that I didn't feel nauseated but I am still getting gas pains like heart burn. But they are not as frequent. More during the night than the day. I guess because I am lying down. I do think by wednesday it should be all done. I am still not feeling hungry but my stomach growls like crazy. Although I am craving meat!!! My stomach (incisions) are doing quite well, no bruising the only one that has some bleading thru the sterile tape is the large one I think thats were the port is. My stomach is itchy but i think that is from the tape. How is your pre-op diet going?

Well, I don't really have to do the pre-op diet. But I am kinda trying to do it. I started this morning (9 days from surgery). I am eatting dinner tonight though. Then Wednesday morning I have a MOPS meeting and they serve Breakfast, so that they won't ask questions I will eat a small Breakfast. Then Friday night, hubby and I have a date night and we are going to dinner and a movie. So, three times I plan on eatting when I shouldn't. I figured the pre-op diet would get my weight loss started and drop a few pounds before surgery!

I am glad to hear that you are doing so much better! It won't be long and you will be back to yourself again!

Hi LaBella,

I am having my band done here in Tulsa, OK. Not as exotic as Mexico but less travel... I am so sad right now, the Dr's office just called and changed my date to Monday the 17th. I had all my plans made with work and help with the kiddos and know i have to re-arrange it all. I am now grumpy... but it will be fine, i know. I would love to keep in touch even though we are not having our bands on the same day anymore. Good luck in Mexico. Let us know how everything goes. I will think about you on thursday and pray for a great recovery!!

I am going on Day 5 post-op. Today has been the best day by far. Yesterday I was able to shower by myself & dress myself.

Last night was the first night back in my own bed!! IT is a really high bed so it was hell getting in. I have been sleeping in a recliner.

My dr. didn't specify how much Water I should be drinking. I have been drinking between 40-60oz a day.

I only took gas x twice (day 2 & 3) then I stopped taking it bc I was getting some weird rumbling in my stomach after I took it.

I bet that shower felt great didn't it Tulipstar? My bed is pretty high, so I was thinking about how I was going to get in it too. I thought maybe I could just roll in! Maybe not huh? Recliner wouldn't be so bad, easier to get in and out of huh? I am glad to hear that you are doing great at day 5 post op! It gives me hope!

Hey everyone...I'm Day 2 post op...I can say that I feel MUCH better than yesterday. I was able to get out of bed on my own this morning which was awesome, yesterday I was at my parent's house and had to have my dad help me.

I'm able to shower, dress myself...pretty much just can't bend over at all. I was able to paint my toenails. It took awhile, but they look pretty now!

I'm walking more today than yesterday, because I'm told it'll help me heal faster and I'll feel better!

Woot! Can't wait for day 3!! :)

Kimmie - I am glad to hear that you are doing better and you could paint your toe nails - I can't wait to see mine! I will go tomorrow or Tuesday and have them done and my surgery in scheduled for Wednesday! Only a few days away now!!! Woohoo! I am down and out with my back right now, so surgery is one of the last things on my mind. I just hope to be able to walk after my surgery, since that is key to healing.

Hi everyone-

I am 12 days into my pre op diet, Medi Fast. It actually hasn't been too bad. I have lost 17 lbs according to my scale...I have to lose 20 by Friday, surgery day.

I am getting very nervous, thinking about food A LOT! I did all of my shopping for my Vitamins, Protein drinks, Jello, heating pad, ice pack, you name it..this weekend, so that I would be 100% prepared. I even bought a new laptop for work, so that I can work while I am in bed.

Did anyone else begin to doubt their decision and feel like you found out more negative stuff as it got closer?

I don't usually get nervous about this kind of stuff, but I am not too sure I will sleep much this week.

I wonder...will I lose the weight or will it be back to the same old stuff? Paying $17000 should make me stick to it, don't you think?!?

Looking forward to hearing everyone's progress.

:nervous:nervous

Time4Me: I started having some doubts but made sure I focused on all the positive comments on this site. I keep having fears that I'm going to be that person that constantly PB's. I am horrible throwing up--it just about makes me pass out I strain so hard so I am not looking forward to that at all. My surgery is tomorrow --- it's real now and I'm getting really nervous. Good luck to you. I know you'll hit the 20 pound mark!

I think you would be unusual if you didn't have doubts. I think whenever you have surgery though there are going to be things that you have to get over, some worse than others. I am really suprised that my self control is so much better after surgery than it was before. I'll admit there were times that I didn't stick to my pre-op diet, but for some reason "cheating" post-op isn't the same. It is a lot easier to stick to the plan and when I did go off I ate a piece of velvetta cheese or an ounce more of Soup. You will do great, just remember to take one day at a time.

Just happened to come across your post and wanted to let you know that I had the same fear (PBing all the time) My sister had her band in July and was throwing up daily for the first month and I was really worried that I would have the same thing. I was banded Sep. 6th and still have not thrown up once! Also, I walked a lot during those first few days and really didn't have any gas pain either. So WALK, WALK, WALK!!! I think it really helps. And really stick to the post op diet, do exactly what it says and you should be fine! Will look forward to seeing how your goes! I was sooo nervous before my surgery, and since I had it, I realized it was no big deal. I have loved my band and never wonder why I did this or have any regrets! Good luck!!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
