THREE MONTHS OUT!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I've finially hit the 3 month point! If you would of asked me the week of surgery where do I see myself in 3 months as far as weightloss I differently would of said more then 53lbs down :o

I have no complaints about surgery! I thank god everyday that I am one of the lucky ones with NO complication :-)

I know, I know 53lbs is nothing to be disappointed about but there's always a but with me.

Everyday, I think am I letting my honeymoon stage pass by? Am I going to be one that just doesn't lose the weight? So many concerns. I have a ways to go (80 more lbs)!! Everyday is a new day ;-)

Good luck Everyone!!

at three months out I was down about 40 lbs, and I obviously started out way heavier than you (I've lost over 200 lbs). So you're right on track. People lose at different rates depending on a bunch of different factors. So don't worry - just stick to your program, and the weight will come off.

@catwomen7, WOW!!! Over 200lbs that's awesome!! I know its a process. I guess you get caught up in the hype of quick weightloss, but it's not always that way and you begin to second guess your progress. Thanks for the encouragement! !!

@@Shaunie Congrats! That's an incredible loss - and you should be ecstatic! When I was asked what my expectations were - I figured 50lbs in 6 months would be great! I'd be dancing in the streets with 50lbs in half that time!

@@KristenLe Thanks!!! I have to remember I wouldn't of lost 53lbs in 3 months without the tool I've been given. So your right it is success! ! I think part of me is afraid to pat myself on the back because its a way letting my guard down. We all know what happens then :'(

Does anyone else think this way as they go through this journey?

I now speak to the pre-op classes at my clinic. I make sure to tell them that they're all going to lose at different rates, and they're going to see people who have dropped 30 lbs that first month, or 100 lbs in the first three months, and think that's the norm. It's not. It's certainly possible to lose that much, but that's at the very high end of the range. I've been hanging out on WLS boards for at least a couple of years, and my take-away is that an "average" range for the first month is 15-25 lbs (a few lose more, a few lose less), and beyond that, 8-12 lbs a month is common (until you get several months out, when it drops even further). So a lot of people are exactly where they should be, but these see these "super losers" and freak out. You're totally normal!! I think bariatric clinics should be more upfront about that so people don't have unrealistic expectations.

Hi Shaunie, you are doing great!! I remember when I was on my 2 week Preop Protein drinks, When I went in for my last weigh in before my surgery I didn't think I had done so well. But I had lost 17#'s. When I thought about it I was ok. That was a little more than a # a day!! I am 3 years out and the way you feel about being afraid to let your guard down is exactly how I felt. I kept thinking about every diet I had been on some even many times more than up to 4 times. Weight watchers 3 times and Nutrisystem 3 times!! TOPS at least 4 times. All I could think of was how many times I had lost and then regained my weight. At one point I lost 135#'s. But it was because I was so sick from my FIBROMYALGIA and ARTHRITIS. I regained back up to 285#'s which was my highest weight except when I was Prego. I did manage to lose 36#'s and keep it off for a couple of years!! But I am here to say if you follow all of your Dr.'s guidelines especially in the 1st year to a year and a 1/2. You really don't have much to worry about. You have been given a tool that will help you to become successful!!! Just keep your eyes on the prize and remember why you decided to take your journey. Every day that goes by it becomes easier and better than the day before!! Good luck!! Just don't let down your guard and become compliant while your journey proceeds!! You CAN do this!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
