Hello All,

I received my approval letter last week and I am scheduled to see the surgeon on Friday. I noticed on my approval letter that it stated my surgery date was 09/16/2016. I called the surgeons office to confirm since i will need to let my employer know. The informed me that this date is what they call a dummy date, just a date given to insurance. However, as the lady and I were talking, she also informed me that the surgeon I was approved for only does surgery once a month at the place i was approved for...

The only way to have my surgery this month would be if I start my pre-op diet on Labor day, along with him still having openings for that date, if not my surgery wont be until Oct 2016, which really sucks.

I am starting my liquid diet today ANYWAYS, just in case the two days really don't make a differences with my surgeon and he still has openings (along with not requiring any further testing from me...)

My questions are...

Is there really a difference in your liver when you are on a 14 day liquid diet vs a 12 day liquid diet?

Is there anything that I can do to help shrink my liver more to make up those two days I have lost?

Thank you all for your help in advance. I look forward to hearing what you all have to say!

Agree with what Kristen says, my surgeon only does a 3 day liquid diet prior to surgery. Others on this board say they were only told not to eat after midnight the night before surgery. If all you have is 12 days all you have is 12 days.

I should add I am jealous!! I am waiting for approval, I can't wait to get a surgery date.

Good luck :)

@@BreannaW Many of us don't even have the pre-op "liver shrinking diet" so don't worry - 12 days should be sufficient.

Just be sure to stick to the plan and only eat/drink what you are allowed.

thank you KristenLe. I called my nutritionist and she said that I will be fine to just be strict with it for the 12 days.

Thank you Laceemouse. I am extremely excited. It will only be this month if he still has an opening on the 19th. Otherwise, I will be an October Sleever.

I hope you get your approval soon. I know how much waiting for that stinks...

I have been researching the sleeve and visiting different doctors off and on for a couple of years. I finally found the doctor I want to use, first saw him early August. At this time they are waiting for the report from the psych eval to come back. After that they should have everything they need to submit to insurance. They act like I will be approved, no big deal, but I have no idea how long it takes from submission to approval to surgery date??? I hate to keep bugging them, the office staff is going to tell Dr. Hamn not to do surgery on me because I am an aggravating pain in the tush!! Ha, not really, but I do have this concern that I will bug them too much and they will dread every time I go in there.

I know they are busy and I don't want to keep bugging them but........AAAGGGHHHHHH!!

@@Gordita81 Exactly this time next week! I am hoping that the surgery is scheduled soon after. I'm very anxious and worried he's going to say November and I may just start to cry. I have no idea how far out they book.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
