Gaining weight pre-op?

Recommended Posts

I have surgery one week from today, and I kind of went crazy this weekend..not only because of the holiday, but I just wanted to get in some of my faves before surgery. I know I can drop some lbs before the surgery, but am afraid I won't get down to what they got me at my last weigh in. Anyone go through this? I don't have liquid diet until next weekend, and I'm afraid they would postpone my surgery or something. I feel so stupid, because this means so much to me.

Hi,

I can understand how you are feeling. Please first don't call yourself "stupid" Of course this means a lot to you and you would not be having surgery if you were able to control your eating -- so that fact that you over ate is a symptom of you disease -- which is why you are getting the sleeve in the first place -- right?

I believe the Insurance companies have different standards for weight game before surgery but I have heard it is 6 pounds or over -- so really, it sounds like you are OK. You are fantastic -- you are walking toward a new life.

Thank you Janushka. I am hoping I can get these added lbs off before next week, which I think I can..just disappointed in myself for doing this. I would hope my program that I am going through wouldn't postpone it (not the hospital).

Thank you for your kind words.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
