Emergency Lap band removal

Recommended Posts

I'm have complications and I don't know what to do. If I remove the lap band.. I will probably gain some of the weight back but I can also just go to the gym and work out and do that to keep my weight at a normal level. I want to go to the local hospital to get it removed but I dunno. Its either that or talking to my surgeon and asking him what he can do to help me out. I've been getting really painful soreness and cramping in the middle of my stomach area.

Go to your doctor for an evaluation before jumping the gun and asking for the band to be removed. I know for me, if the band was gone, I'd have alot of trouble with my food consumption...and would gain alot back for sure.

Go to the doctor. It may need to be adjusted or it may have slipped. You're having pain so they will get you in right away. Good luck

I recall that you've posted your worries a few other times. It seems as though the last was at least a couple of months ago.

You probably were advised to see the surgeon in previous threads. It seems that you haven't followed up in the appropriate place -- the doctor's office -- but instead come here to be told what to do.

Here goes. It's time to be a capable adult looking out for your own medical concerns. No one here has any clue as to whether your pain is related to the band or something completely different. Make an appointment with the surgery practice. It may be that you'll be referred to a GE/GI once there. Ongoing pain says that something is off and shouldn't be ignored further in case it is serious.

Go take care of yourself. You surely can update people here at BP afterward, but no one here can treat you. Ask questions and take notes at your appointments. Do not leave the office until you are sure you understand the information you're given. If you think you'll be too nervous to follow through on this, take a reliable friend or relative with you to help get things straight.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
