I am in the early stages of this process (waiting for my cardiologist to submit the referral and paperwork)

I live in Midcoast Maine and will (hopefully) be going to the Bariatric Surgery Center in Portland.

I would like to know if anyone has any experience with the banding here in Maine, or with the BSC and Dr. Cobean or Wolff?

Thanks,

Rae

Hi Rae

I was banded last November by Dr. Cobean. My weight loss has been quite slow but I wouldn't trade the band for anything! I had a great experience at Maine Med and the staff at the Bariatric Center are all very kind....

Good luck!

Terry

That's wonderful!! I am very confident with MMC, I have had 2 open heart surgeries, a pacemaker implant and a c-section as well as natural childbirth there, and have been treated fabulously each and every time. It is a little scary trying to find a surgeon though so I want to thank you again for your input.

Hi there. I was banded on August 13th in Bangor by Dr Toder. She is a wonderful surgeon and she really knows her stuff. I have also heard good things about the surgeons in Portland as well. Bangor was really my only option and I live 2 hours from there. Traveling to Portland is about 4-4 1/2 hours for me, so it seemed as though Bangor was the right choice. I hope for the best for you if you choose to go with the Band.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
