Hello everyone.

I am about 5 weeks out from surgery and in the last two weeks I've noticed that food is becoming something I look at in disgust. It's weird though, when I'm starting to feel hungry I'll think about what I want to eat and I feel excited about it, but when it comes down to eating it I have no desire. Yesterday I was at the hot bar in whole foods and saw something that looked good and bought it, the second I sat down to actually eat it I felt grossed out about the food and had to force some of it down. I've noticed I'm forcing pretty much everything I eat down. This is really not good because I'm not getting in enough calories for my body to function properly and I'm dealing with a little bit of low energy at times. Protein intake has also been an issue as I never want to eat. I didn't feel like this during the first few weeks after surgery so I'm not really sure what's happening, nor do I know how to overcome it. It's making me feel regret about getting the surgery because I used to once love food, and although I don't want to be obsessed with food like I used to be I also don't want to hate it. It's bee making me feel a little sad and I'm hoping this is just a passing phase.

It is a phase. You will probably feel like this for a few more weeks. You just had your stomach sized to only hold a 4 oz meal. So of course eating will seem like a chore. As for Protein, have you tried Protein Shakes? They're pretty good depending on which ones you drink. When they perform the gastric sleeve, they cut out a big portion of your stomach that produces ghrelin. Ghrelin is known as the "hungry hormone". That's why most people get this surgery; so they don't crave as much. You will be ok. If this lasts for more than a few more weeks, consult your doctor.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
