Significant others and family

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 7/26 and all is going pretty well. Still fighting to get my Protein in on this full liquid phase. I've been trying to focus so much on my fluids that protein has been on the back burner. Hopefully I'll get it all in tomorrow.

Anyways, I'm posting this wondering how you guys handle your bf/gf or family and their bad eating habits. My boyfriend comes home from work with fast food or something horrible every day. I cried yesterday when I smelled his food. It makes me so mad and he knows it. I could smash his food in the floor .

Any of you have to deal with a situation like this? What do you do?

This is not what you want to hear, but you did this, not him. You cannot expect everyone to change their bad habits just because you did. Of course, this could also be a sign of other problems, like lack of respect and communication. Anyway, it sucks sometimes, but it will get better. I hated being around anyone eating anything for a while, but it no longer bothers me.

He may not even realize it was going to bother you. His world hasn't changed, yours has. Maybe let hI'm know that you will be in another room while he eats until you further along in your program. Communication is key.

Have you tried to talk to him about it? To see if he can try to "eat better" with you? I would do that... my hubby has eaten less and tries to eat healthier while I am still on the liquid diet (same surgery date as you) he will have at least one bigger meal but I don't expect him to drink liquids only like me but support me through it and that is what it sounds like you need, is your bf's support.... good luck to you!

Communicate! He has no way of knowing exactly what is going on with you! Your hormones are all out of whack. This is the time to talk - let him know what you're feeling! But - as others said - you had surgery - he didn't and you will be around temptation forever - you will need to learn how to deal with it. Good luck!

I will add to what others say in that in the first month or two after surgery I was unreasonably angry at typical every day situations. Knowing that allowed me to not act on those emotions. they are real feelings though, and very powerful. it doesn't bother me any more what others are eating - so trust that it does get better.

Yep. I echo a lot of what has already been said. You can't expect those around you (even those closest to you) to change just because of your surgery. If it were that easy then you wouldn't have needed surgery to make those changes....you know? That's what I would tell myself in the beginning....they didn't need the surgery I did...so this is my responsibility.

Of course, I also know how hard it is regardless of what you tell yourself. It's not easy. Most people wouldn't expect a crack-addict to be "strong" in a room filled with crack, but unfortunately food temptations will be around you constantly, whether at home, on TV, driving down the street....literally everywhere. Stay in your own 'bubble' and do what you can to reinforce the facts that you are doing this for the right reasons, and the right way.

Soon, you'll be surprised to see that once those close to you see the positive changes in your life, they might even follow suit and make changes themselves. Then you can truly be proud that not only did you stay strong through the temptations, but you actually inspired others to make positive changes as well.

Stay strong and best of luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
