Hi everyone! On July 18, 2016, I got a revision from lap band to duodenal switch. It was supposed to be a one overnight stay...however mine ended up being four nights because I was very sensitive to the anesthesia and pain meds. Then I couldn't keep liquids down. On July 26, I went to my dr's office to get my staples removed and the on call dr (my dr went on vacation after I went home from the hospital) sent an order for me to have a barium swallow done. The radiologist looked at my x rays and called the dr to alert him that the liquids were not moving as they should be rather sitting stagnant. Mind you this was my third swallow (one pre op, one immediately post op, and then this time). I was told to wait in the waiting room to hear from my dr about what the next plan of action was. He called and told me that I needed to be admitted because of dysphasia and potential dehydration. Wednesday, he did an EGD (again my third), but this one was different because it caused me GREAT discomfort that I hadn't experienced before with the others. Thursday, I had a pretty good day. I had ice chips and a couple sips of broth and KEPT IT ALL DOWN!! So when the dr came to see me this morning, I told him that I was doing better and he said that he'd reserved a slot for me for an exploratory lap, but if I felt like I could keep things down then there was no reason to go back to OR. Well, as soon as I started liquids today, I began vomiting again! Due to me having taken in some liquid, I couldn't go under the knife until tomorrow. Ugh!!! I'm in such discomfort and I don't really know what to do. I've been praying for a miracle and believing that whatever is broken or wrong can be rectified soon!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
