I just arranged all my first appointments today, first I have to attend a seminar before they will schedule my initial consultation, then I learn from my insurance company that I will be required to do 6 months of medically supervised weight loss. I was all excited about taking the plunge and getting the ball rolling on this and now I'm feeling like this is gonna take forever

Frenchie, trust me, you'll want the time. I started my process in January and I hit a few snags with insurance. I'm just having my surgery on August 8th. I needed the time to process all of this and to prepare. It's definitely about more than just "weight loss". I'm realizing exactly how much of this is in my brain because this liquid diet is challenging me Lol Make use of your time wisely...think about how you got this far and why...and embrace your journey.

I went through the same thing! Started in Nov, surgery in july. I'm thankful for the time though. It gave me time to train myself with me healthy habits. The time seriously flew by!

I haven't even seen my doctor yet. Lol. Talk about long process. I have Kaiser and it sounds like I will deal with much of the same as they have required classes that take 3 months. I was put off by it at first but I think I will be ok. I have the holidays in between to keep me busy. Hopefully I can get surgery in the beginning of next year.

I've been going through the same thing since last November but it pays off! I was approved and am scheduled for surgery Aug 4 (although there was a setback because my surgeon got into a skiing accident and was out for a month and a half) so he was backed up. I was supposed to have been able to have surgery a month ago. It's soooooo worth it!

It does go by quickly, especially with all of the appointments needed during the time. I know back in April when I started this in earnest, I thought August was SO FAR AWAY. Now I have my surgeon appointment tomorrow, pre-op diet starting in a week, and am 3 weeks away from THE DAY.

I know it feels like you'll be waiting a lifetime, but I'm glad they made me do them. I learned a lot from them. Take this time to focus on you and learn how this tool will help you. Hang in there you can do it.

Your process sounds exactly like mine. I started this journey on January of this year and will have surgery the day after tomorrow. My surgery would have been last month but it was delayed bc when the GI ordered my endoscopy they found a bacteria that had to be treated for 6 weeks.

Just this morning my office neighbor and I were talking about me already having surgery, time flied though, it feels like just yesterday I told him I had decided to do it.

When you least expect it you'll be in my same shoes, trust me.

Good luck!

It happens to all of us. Even if your insurance doesn't require anything, it's still a process.

Last year during the summer I started the process. I went to all appointments (doctor, nut, psych.. everything) I dropped close to 50lbs on my new diet they put me on and everything. Just before I got my date they denied me because I had been a smoker and they thought I would go back to smoking after.

Can you believe it?!?! Why not tell me first instead of having me go through all of that just to let me down. Since then I have gained all the weight back but I still don't smoke!!!!!!!

I decided I wasn't going to give up so I went to a different place and had a few appointments and have a couple more but I'm also having surgery November 14! I finally got a date and it's been a year.

Everything happens for a reason even if we don't know what it is at the time. I just lost my mother and nephew a few months ago and I possibly would have stretched my stomach by emotional eating.. there was my reason. The world works in mysterious ways. What's meant to be will be. It will be worth the wait. If you really want something bad enough you will make it happen.

Good luck! Don't give up.

Sorry for such a long response lol

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
