Hi.

I'm 25 about to be 26 next month. I weigh 206 normally and I am 5'3. As of right now, I do not qualify for surgery but I am trying to eat my way to the mark. I am 210 right now and I have to be 226 to reach a BMI of 40 to automatically qualify. Call me crazy, IDC, I am sick of being fat. I have never been skinny and I am tired of worrying and thinking about my weight every single day of my life. I'm ready for a real huge change and to look the way I feel. I see a lot of people very obese and I know I am not..anyone else barely making the qualifications?

Hi!!! I'm turning 26 next month too and I'm 5'3"!! But I am way heavier than you (280). I can't necessarily say you are crazy. Ive gained 120 pounds in like 6 years so I have had those thoughts back when I didn't yet qualify. But I did not gain weight purposely for it

Well I'm older than you both (45). My doctor told me to not loose anymore weight, so I could ha e the surgery. It's hard. I'm supposed to eat healthy, track my food, but not loose weight. I don't think you're crazy at all. Do you what you gotta do for you!

Hey there. I'm 22yrs 5'5" and weigh 241 which puts my BMI right at 40. To qualify for surgery my BMI has to stay at 40. They're telling me I cannot lose weight and I should actually gain 1lb to be on the safe side, which is a bummer since I'm wanting to start a lot of these healthy habits before surgery but I'm scared to because I can't lose any weight. Once I get approved from insurance I suppose I'll have a month before surgery to start these habits. Better late than never I guess.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
