Stay out of the sun, hot tubs and tanning beds. Keep the temp down on your showers and tubs. Skin is the largest organ in your body, treat it with respect. Lots of Water and Protein. It also helps if you did a good job of picking your parents, but that is one thing you can't control (genetics is a big factor). ;-0

Do you have any tips or remedies to reduce the amount of sagging skin after surgery.

I'm one week post op

Just worried about future stuff.

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Stay hydrated, get enough Protein, eat nutritious food, take your Vitamins and supplements, and be patient and give it time. One thing I have noticed is that my skin tends to tighten up during stalls.

Exercise... build muscle.. try to focus on toning your skin.. get enough Protein and fluids... keep your skin in good health by exfoliating and keeping it well moisturised .. all these things helped me when i had my band... no loose skin at all... except the boobs.. they did lose volume... but other than that... no loose skin.

I keep wondering about this too. I know there is no magical way to totally counteract this, but there must be some helpful things. I know Biotin is often mentioned for the skin and hair. Are there any creams that work noticeably well? And what about baths with something in it, an oil or skin softener of some type? It seems like it would really be able to absorb everywhere in a soaking bath. Any ideas?

I've been so worried about that too. I found that itworks wraps are totally amazing with tightening and toning skin, and an It works supplement called hair,Skin, and Nails. They have both been amazing!!!

one step at a time, one sip at a time, one pound at a time.

I forgot about that aspect, muscle provides a nice frame work. I need to get back into hot yoga. I think I was the happiest with my body at this weight when I was sweating 2-3 times a week. There is something about those moves that

1) allows you to move with more grace and fluidity and

2) just makes you look better, but most important

3) women just look hot in those outfits, just saying

Absolutely, skin needs muscle to "hold" onto... the more muscle you have, the more it has something to grab onto.... yoga is good, there is a misconception that you need to carry heavy weights to build muscle, you can build muscle with any type of resistance training.

I like to use resistance bands, i get a good stretch, it increases your flexibility and helps keep things toned... i use them during warm ups and cool downs... every little bit helps

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
