Need Advice from Exercise Experts!

Recommended Posts

Exercise is generally a foreign term to me. I tried the gym but it was too much for my body right now..

I do walk away the pounds, and walking my dog..

Anyway, since I've been losing weight, I am a top heavy person, HUGE stomach.. but now my stomach sides, the 'love handles' which have always poked out bad, especially when sitting (and toppling over my pants).. seems to be getting worse with the weight loss. When I'm standing up, it looks pretty good from the weight loss, but when I sit down it seems 'squishier' and more loose..

Anyone know any ab/love handle specific exercises that are not too intense for someone still 100lbs overweight?

I want to be able to do them on a daily basis, and something meant just for those.. without having to buy fancy exercise equipment.

I like taking a hand weight, maybe a 8-15lb one, and standing straight up, feet shoulder width apart, both arms straight down. Grab one dumbell and hold with right arm (no bend in arms). Slowly bend to the side (think running right hand/dumbell along the side of your leg from hip to knee) then back up again. Repeat on same side for however many times, I usually do the whole thing 15 x per side, 3 times, then switch dumbell from right hand to left had and bend to left side. When you have the dumbell in your right hand, it tones and stretches the left side, vice versa. Seems to tone up the sides, and they aren't crunches on the floor (which always make me wanna cry!) Don't know if this was explained right!!!

You explained it well, I know what you're talking about. Will have to get weights tonight to try this out.. Have you noticed it making a difference?

Oh yea, it does make the sides tighter, and gives a good stretch at the same time...it definately won't make the fat disappear, but with the right amount of cardio, the band, the this making things a little tighter, you'll notice a difference in about a month!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
