Feeling teary and so sad

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

It's been 4 days since I've had my band in. I am so sad and constantly teary and I don't know why.

I'm recovering as I should be, following the prescribed diet and doing ok. Hubby is super supportive but I am so teary and sad.

Is this possibly the anaesthetic? Did anyone else go through this? I have NOTHING to be sad about!

Thanks,

Kbarbs

Hi Kbarbs, I am having my band surgery tomorrow so I can't offer any real advice but I was reading a post earlier about someone experiencing increased symptoms of depression a few months after surgery, something to do with extra hormones being released? I can't give you the science - perhaps someone else can?

Could it also be that you've been anticipating having the surgery for a while and now it's happened you are on a 'come down' (and recovering from the surgery)?

It could be anesthesia but more likely hormones from weight loss. Hang in there! Go for a walk - let the endorphins fight those damn hormones!

Thanks guys!

I went for a walk and I do feel a bit better. I think you may be right and it's the "come down" and hormones. Also I was a carb, sugar and caffeine junkie and I've had none of that in 3 weeks now. That has to be contributing to this low, no?

Hormones are probably out of whack. It gets better! But I do have weird bouts still at 4 months out. My advice is to take a del breath. Appreciate and acknowledge what you are feeling. It is neither right or wrong. It is just you! And you just do you!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
