~ Too tight after 4 years of being banded ~

Recommended Posts

I am setting the date for my band removal finally....I wanted to keep my baby...but it has been too tight from day one. I was never able to get a fill in and I have suffered for far too long with pb'ing & a burning chest all 4 years. (My original doc would never listen to me...so I gave up going to him & learned to deal with it all!)

My original doc moved so I am free to go to other docs for opinions....seeing I have bad ulcers all the way up & down my esophagus (I am not perforated nor have I strectched my pouch at all after all these years..I have been a good girl!!) one says I should have it removed period...the other said I could have it replaced.... I could go for another band....but...I feel that if I have it out...it will allow my esophagus to heal at a more progressive rate?? this is my dilemma...:faint:

Is there anyone out there that has had this same experience and/or care to give me their thoughts and ideas?

Thanks!

Dawn

I would suggest you get the opinion of a really good GI doc about what would be the best to allow your esophagus to heal. The GI doc may not know loads about the band itself, but what you need to know is how best to heal.

If you can get another band, and have been successful losing weight with it, there are a few more types of bands that have come out in the past couple of years. You may wish to have it removed and then do some research for a while about whether to replace it or not.

Good Luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
