New and insurance woes

Recommended Posts

I'm new here and of course like so many others have struggled most of my adult. Life with my weight.. I've thought of surgery often but never went through it.. So I finally talked to my husband.. Called and signed up for the seminar that everyone must attend.. My first weigh in I was at 38.1 bmi and they let me talk to the pa.. They said she would decide if I could continue to the seminar.. I have blood pressure problems and have since I was 37..im 45 now.. I take two BP meds a day but of course not the max dose and it controls it.. Which bcbs of NC states that if tou are below 40 bmi you must have one comorbidity to qualify.. I don't have sleep apnea.. Don't have reflux.. I do have gastritis.. I don't have diabetes.. I don't have high cholesterol.. I do have osteoarthritis but I had my knees replaced last year at 44..so don't know if that will. Count.. I'm. Just scared.. I am at 38.8 bmi now.. My plan does not require anything other than nutritional counseling and psychological counseling prior to submission for approval.. I'm so scared I'm going to all these appts and I'm gonna be denied.. It's sad that 7 lbs is gonna get me denied.. I've lost and gained more weight than I want to admit and I'm tired..i have fibro and I'm in pain everyday.. And I know this surgery would help so. Much..

I guess I'm just looking for some good vibes.. My last appt before I get an appt with my surgeon is August 11 for the cardiac Dr.. And I know my heart is fine. I'm just sad.. And worried I pursued this and now I'll be turned away :(

I know you say you don't have sleep apnea...have you actually ever been tested for it?

I only asked because I thought I didn't have it and found out I did! Anyway, the bariatric centers, at least in my experience, try to do everything they can to make it work for people in our situation. Hopefully your center is the same. It seems like high blood pressure is (or should be) considered a comorbidity! Good luck, keep us posted.

I am new to this site. My surgery is on August 16. I still don't know how much of the hospital bill I will have to pay :-( I am so stressed out over this that I am not sleeping well all night. I have Cigna. Everything was approved when I first started the treatment with my Bariatric surgeon. My fear is when I get to the hospital on aug16 and they tell me I have to pay thousands of dollars before surgery :-( How this work with you? Thank you.

Get the code for the procedure from your bariatric center, then call the billing department at the hospital. They should be able to tell you what is covered and what isn't. Good luck!

Hey LizHobbs,

You need to call your insurance company and they should be able to advise you of your cost, or approx cost. You can also look at your insurance handbook that should provide this information. It really depends on the type of insurance you chose.

Best of luck with everything!

Nicole

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
