Hormones..Libido..Huh?

Recommended Posts

So, I had blood work for the first time since surgery (10 months ago) and what do you know? Everything was on point. Thank God. Except, my progesterone...hmm...how did my progesterone become almost non existent? No wonder I had no libido. Started on oral progesterone and once my TOM shows up, I can start BC pills!! So, question is... Have any of you suffered from hormonal imbalance (other than moodiness) after surgery or is this just coincidence??

All of my blood work is normal, and my libido is through the roof, it was always high now it is off the charts.

There are so many different things that come into play with your hormones as a woman. It is hard to just pin it on surgery.

@@UalreadyKnow - Correlation does not mean causation. ;-) My girlfriend is in excellent shape without WLS and she has that same issue. Ask your doc about the hormone pellet implants (http://www.myhormonetherapy.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Testosterone-Therapy-for-Women.pdf). They last around 3 months, and have been shown to reduce breast cancer after two treatments.

BTW, you might want to check out the resources from Dr. Meston on libido. http://labs.la.utexas.edu/mestonlab/female-sexual-dysfunction/

@@OKCPirate thanks for the links. I, many years ago, was a pharmacy manager for a compound pharmacy here in Miami, we had a patient, who became addicted to her testosterone troche and said she just had never felt alive before her testosterone replacement therapy. I should've thought about that!! Thanks again for the great articles!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
