How long does the pain last?

Fourth day post op. I felt pretty good in the hospital. Was able to get up and walk around easily. Nurses said I was doing better than most. But now that I've been home a couple days I'm feeling much worse. Yesterday I was able to get almost all of one shake down and about 30 oz of Water. But that amount made my stomach feel like it's going to explode. Now this morning I can't imagine having to drink a shake.

Pain has been pretty severe. Not bad if I'm laying down and still but to get up and move around is a real chore. How long does this typically last? Week? Two? Just trying to get mentally prepared.

@@kjmorris Take your pain meds as prescribed and if you didn't get any - call your surgeon. Move as much as possible - it's important to prevent blood clots.

that sounds like a lot of fluid for being immediatelyl post op. Don't worry about meeting your goals just yet, just get in what you can for now

I am 4 days and have gotten in 40-60 Protein and 40-60 Water .... Diagnose me ( wink). Am I doing too much ? It takes an hour to get the Protein shake down

@@kjmorris - the more I get up and walk the better I feel ... It is the opposite you would think , but the walking is working

plans vary like crazy, don't they @@moniquea ? even within a plan the orders vary depending on each patient's needs if the program is very good.

where I had surgery it was Clear liquids in the hospital and then full liquids the two weeks, then soft foods till a month then all foods if you're healed. no puree stage at all.

I'm 5 days post op and was instructed to take milk of magnesia as long as I'm on pain meds. I've had several bathroom visits already.

Good to know thank you

By day 3 after taking PPI starting working, I was able to think again, by day 6 my sense of reason came back... cuz day 4 I was wondering wt/heck did I do??? Slow and steady wins the race... pls don't rush the 1st 3 weeks... your body is taking control right now... just follow your plan closely... sounds like your doing good...

I'm so sorry your in pain. I was in pain on day 3-5 while at home. Mostly due to the gas and not using my Breathing thingy .. When I forced myself to walk outside I got relief. And I used my pain meds as needed (after day 6) I no longer needed them.

I was also on Clear liquids the first week, no protien. The doctor didn't give me any goals the first week but to sip water and walk and rest as much as possible.

This will past !! Day3-5 were rough for me and then it was pretty smooth sailing, I'm going to be 4 weeks post op Tmw.

All the best !

My post up says work up to 64 oz INCLUDING Protein shakes. Definitely check with your Dr. You might be pushing too much too soon.

I remember questioning my decision to have it done right after and for a few days. I'm a month out and I know it was the right thing. The first week was the hardest for me. You'll feel better soon!

Good things come to good people.

@kjmorris.....Hello! I had my surgery on May 15th. I was like you and felt better while in the hospital. Once I got home I wasn't able to drink near enough Fluid or any Protein.............My nurse coordinator gave me the best advice....she told me to stop worrying about any number of ounces as goals and to just focus on sipping as much fluid as I could and to keep an eye on the color of my urine and to not let it get dark......and once I was able to drink fluids easier then to start working on protein........

Bottom line the first 5 days were tough for me.............day 6 it started to get much better and by about day 8 I was good to go with both fluid and protein.

Let us know how you're doing.
