Liquids, Liquids, Liquids!!!

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the info... No my doctor doesn't ask for a pre-op liquid diet they just ask us to lose a certain amount of weight prior to surgery. That is why I want to do the liquid diet to lose the weight I need to and to shrink my liver. I will definately look for higher Protein Drinks and lower carb items

Thanks again!

Hey Alexandera---I am supposed to drink the Protein mix drinks too. But I noticed they have 200 calories!!!! Good grief. I am diabetic. I am now doing a carnation instant breakfast--sugar free in the morning. However, I fear I am not getting enough protein. Any suggestions. The last thing I want is to be skinny, but bald.

200 calories is fine! You are supposed to be using these as meal replacements, and that's not much for a meal. Three of these throughout the day will give you 600 calories, plus Soups or whatever for meals and you're good! That's real nutrition. This is not supposed to be a starvation situation.

I'm not sure about the sugar content of real Protein Drinks is, though. Are there GNC stores near you, or some other health food place that can advise you?

Ok I went to my monthly pre-op class and I am sooo dissappointed! I only lost 4 lbs this month. I am down to 387 lbs. I need to lose at least 7 more lbs within 10 days. Otherwise I won't be where I need to be when I have my follow up with my surgeon. I am so stressed out I don't know what to do...Any suggesstions????

My doctor required me to eat Protein (meat, eggs, cheese, etc.), sugar free Jello and pudding and no starches (bread, potatoes, rice, Pasta, etc.) for 2 weeks prior to surger. My banding was August 21 and I lost all the required weight plus a little and was fine. My surgery took less than 35 minutes and I am doing very well now. My doctor allows Clear Liquids for 2 days after surgery and then full liquids (soups, etc) for a week, then mushies. I am into the full liquids and it is tough because I ate too much Soup the other day and it hurt, but otherwise, if I watch the portion I am doing great.

Hi Alexandra! I was wondering how you knew your lapband slipped? Pain? I am having my surgery Sept 13th and this is my main concern. I looked into the gastric sleeve but money was a large part of my choice for the band. I have read many of your postings and you seem to know so much. Any advice for me?

Thanx,

Joannie

That is pretty much what I have been doing for the last 3 days... No bread, rice, potatoes or pasteries. I haven't even had any fruit. Just lean meats like chicken, g.turkey, cheese, veggies, and no sugar drinks. We will see on Monday how well this is working for me. I am a scale-a-holic and use my scale everyday in the morning and I know I shouldn't but it looks like I have lost 5 lbs since Monday. But I do like to use the weight on the scale at the Dr.s office for my official weight, my home scale seems to fluxtuate since I am so close to the max weight of 400, not sure if thats it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
