I'm worried about the Psych Eval. I have some mild depression and anxiety - should I be worried about it? What do they ask?

They are mostly concerned with your state of mind, your expectations, how well you understand what the surgery is all about and your roles and responsibilities. They want to know that you know the surgery is a tool, not a fix, and that you don't have any huge food-related issues. If you're in a good frame of mind and really know what this is all about and feel prepared for it, you should do just fine. :)

I have depression and other issues, but I passed. She asked a lot of questions for her report and I had to fill out some questions, but everything went fine.

I was diagnosed as bi polar and I also have anxiety and panic attacks. The way my surgeon made it seem is that I would need clearance from my regular psychiatrist and that she would need to be included in the process. I don't have a meeting with the bariatric psychiatrist until July so I plan to make sure my regular one is updated on everything. I hope everything goes well for you!!!

I saw the psych guy and he said we have a lot to work through. I have a work Injury and need to drop Weight for that surgery as well. He wants to see me again in a month... I dunno why or what I'm supposed to tell him but I guess this gives me a chance to try the diet plan out and eat more regularly.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
