I did not have any complications - and I had a nerve block so very little pain. I was ready to go back in a week, but I took short days the rest of the month so I could go home and walk, nap, catch up on fluids.

I would think if you do not have any complications or a hernia repair you should be fine if you're not in a job that requires lifting. but you will need to plan for having to take small sips all day still.

Thankfully I work in an office . So no mandatory heavy lifting . Sips you mean because of the liquid diet right ? Meaning to be prepared to have the necessary liquids here at work

Everyone's surgery experience is different but for me, I was sleeved as an outpatient and took 11 days off. I was off pain meds and driving on day 5. I got tired pretty quickly but recovered just fine. I am at my desk a lot at work so I did fine.

Definitely plan on keeping fluids handy and you will do great! Wishing you the best!

I work in an office and I worked 1/2 a day, on day 8 post-op. Then I did another 1/2 day on day 15 post-op. Then I did 1/2 a day on day 18 post-op. Also, I walk to church on Sundays and spend about 4 hours in my lengthy Baptist service lol. I intend to work four 1/2 days next week. Rebuild your stamina as best you can and keep your managers in the loop.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
