Puleeeeze don't make me drink another protein drink!

Recommended Posts

I am on day 6 post op and am soooo sick of Protein Drinks. That is all I can have right now and they are nasty!. My appointment where they advance my diet is not until 11 days post op. I'm gonna go crazy!!! And I'm feeling guilty because I ate a couple bites of plain, nonfat Greek yogurt. Such a sad way to cheat but I was desperate and figured it was a fairly safe option and might help me meet my Protein goal. Anyone else having a similar problem?

YES!!!! Can't wait to get done with this phase. None of the shakes are appealing anymore. I can have Greek yogurt, but like the shakes, it gets old real fast. I saw a quote somewhere I recite in my head before each shake. It says, "The things you do now that feel like great sacrifices, will one day be the greatest investment in yourself you've made." Helps me get through one shake at a time.... good luck!

Wow only shakes? I am on full liquids but can have low fat strained creamy Soups and broths

I've been having injury Soup and that helps to get a break from the shakes

If it makes you feel better Lite Greek yogurt was allowed by my surgical team during the full liquid stage which was less than a week post op. I am alive and well. It might be worth giving them a call because they might say it is ok. Either way reach out to your NUT there are tasty Protein Shakes out there. GNC total lean and Isopure (also at GNC) got me through. Syntrax Nectar from Amazon is good too.

Dear, dear @@Katrinakit, I prefer this quotation: "Into each life a little swill must spill. You may quote me. I didn't have to drink such medicinal-tasting things, but I do sympathize. Look on the bright side -- you have only five more days before you get to have less vile things. Or a greater variety of vile things!

I've been having injury soup....

I didn't have to use medicinal-tasting, make-believe food either, but I do imagine that you've described the Soup quite nicely.

You all can do it. You'll all be fine. Promise.

I think most people went through that but it's just a brief amount of time in contrast to the whole journey you're on! Stick to it and keep positive! Heel! In a few months you'll totally see it's worth it! lol

I still cannot stand making my own Protein shake, 6 months out and I'm just over the powder. It makes me cringe!

BUT I have a pre made Premier Protein every morning for Breakfast and I honestly look forward to it. It's my daily chocolate fix.

Good luck! Stay the course, you will do great!!!

The only Protein drink I actually enjoy is Chike mocha or regular. Each serving has 20 grams of Protein, 140 calories and only 3g sugar. I will caution you, there is caffeine in it and most doctor's suggest not ingesting caffeine.

I had to weight caffeine intake vs not getting enough protein-I don't eat meat, fish or eggs. I was about three months out when I starting drinking it and no issues.

If you enjoy broth, mix some plain Protein Powder with a little cold Water and add to broth. If you add the powder to hot liquid it clumps up and is disgusting. I found the bariatric Soups a great alternative from Protein shakes but after a while, they're pretty awful too.

I second the suggestion of the Premier Protein shakes above. I found I didn't tolerate a lot of the powdered ones well (most of them just had the weirdest taste/aftertaste that I couldn't shake). But I found the vanilla and strawberries and cream flavored Premier Protein Shakes (almost every supermarket I go to has them, but costco has them much cheaper if you have a membership!). They're ready made and 30g of Protein in 11oz to-go containers. Once you get the okay, you can even blend some frozen (or fresh) fruit into them for a change. Worth a try if you haven't already!

I just want you to know, I'm right there with ya. My follow up appointment is tomorrow... I've already bought my favorite hummus (and stuck my finger in it and licked it off) in anticipation of tomorrow. I'm bringing it in my lunch box for work, and I intend on having it for a snack in between these shakes tomorrow.

I also know it's a short path on our journey, but when that head hunger starts, and I can't shake it with broth, Jello, or a shake, then I feel so sorry for myself I get really cranky. But it tends to pass quickly, thank goodness.

They told me I'll be eating Greek yogurt on the third day after surgery... Try sprinkling it with cinnamon... If your going to cheat might as well make it taste good

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
