It all starts today...

Recommended Posts

Hey all, SO... Yesterday was my pre-op assessment 8 days prior to surgery. My nurse was lovely and took (3 large!!!) test tubes of my blood for tests. My pre-op diet starts today, 1,000 cal per day low fat diet up until surgery date which is the 26th.

I know I should feel lucky that they didn't assign me a liquid only diet but I kind of wish they had, it would be easier to follow! I might just try to do it that myself anyway to prepare for after surgery I'm not sure!

Anyway I just wanted to check in and say, it all starts today! I'm nervous but have never been more ready tor anything in my life!

Yay! Good luck to you. My pre-op diet is a Protein Shake for Breakfast, a Protein shake for lunch, and a small meal for dinner consisting of 3 oz chicken, 1 cup non-starchy veggies, 1/2 cup fruit. If I am starving in between meals I can do broth, celery, or sugar free Jello. It's pretty easy, and the only meal I have to plan for is dinner. If you wanted, you could do something similar to that. I feel the same way you do, nervous but SO ready!

I've had a ton of blood drawn as part of this process of getting cleared for surgery. I actually fainted when I had the pre-op blood drawn.

@@jessjames My surgery is June 7th. I don't start my pre-op diet until Tuesday, May 31st but I might start earlier, just to be safe. Keep us updated on how you're doing!

Oh believe me I will! Day two now and I'm dealing with it a lot better, have decided to ditch the bread and potatoes as they're too high in calories and instead made myself stews with lots of veggies to munch on throughout the day! Not long now until

You start the pre-op! How exciting

I know it's strange isn't it? I think it has to do with size/height ratio and just how overweight you are? My bmi is 35.. Could be that. My doctor did say that dependent on your bmi he can put them on the pre-op from 1week to 6weeks! I asked why he didn't put me on a liquid diet and he said because people rarely stick to it

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
