For those with Kaiser, has this happened to you?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery consult with the surgeon, but and coordinator today. I was all ready to start scheduling the labs and appointments but the surgeon told me that all I needed to do was lose the requires weight and have the psych exam. No other labs or tests needed. I have high blood pressure but it is managed well and I have never had any type of surgery or other medical issues. Has this happened to anyone else?

I met with my surgeon and nutritionist yesterday, I just have to lose the weight and get a mammogram. My other tests were up to date.

Thank you. I had not heard of anyone not having to go through a series of tests.

So glad you had your consult and it sounds like it went well! I too was surprised that there was not more pre op testing required (all I have to do is an EKG and my regular labs are updated). My psych appointment with Kaiser is May 17th. My last go round with a different insurance I had to do an Upper GI, sleep study, EKG and also the regular labs. I am glad to see that other Kaiser patients don't have to do so many pre op tests and I'm not the only one.

I was so shocked that I didn't have to anything other than lose the weight. Not that the weight loss is nothing... I just figured I would have more steps to take. Congrats on losing what you needed to! I cannot wait to get to that point.

From my first weigh in, I have lose 37lbs to have the surgery and I am already down 6lbs. 31lbs to go...it's time to get really serious. I want to drop the weight plus an extra 10lbs before I go on vacation at the end of October (want to have a cushion) and I want to have the surgery in the beginning of November.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
