I started this crazy idea on Feb. 15 and so far I've had 3 weigh in/visits with my surgeon. I've lost 13lbs and am trying to slow down the loss so not to jeopardize my approval with Aetna. They don't require a specific number or percent weight loss just have to show loss. Well I got excited the first month and lost 7 lbs! Then the second month I lost 4lbs and the last visit another 2 lbs! Doc says slow down! Haha why isn't it been this easy before?! Oh yeah because my time effort and money is on the line!

I've done blood work, gallbladder ultrasound, upper scope(EGD) - which I was positive for hPylori and had to take 14 days of a triple antibiotic that cost me $150 AFTER insurance!!! And now I'm just waiting for May 19 for my last visit with the surgeon then it's submission time! I want to schedule surgery for the week of June 13th so I can be back to work in time for a major audit we have scheduled for July 18th. Plus my kids are going to stay with Grandma for a month while I have surgery and recover.

It's going to be a super busy and rough summer but come Christmas I'll be happier than I've been in years!

I'm closing in on my 2nd attempt. My first surgery had to be aborted. Long story.

But if all goes to plan, I start my pre-op diet on 5/17 and get operated on 5/31.

Best of luck @@AmberMc03!!

Well ladies my surgeons office submitted everything on Thursday and Aetna has 14 days to respond. I Followup with the insurance coordinator on 6/2 and if approval is sent by then we will schedule my surgery. I am planning on the week of June 20th if the hospital can get me in that week. I'll have a 1 week liquid pre op diet.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
