Hello All,

So my surgery is scheduled for May 3rd. I have gotten clearance from all the doctor's so I am ready to go. This morning I woke up with a dry throat which usually means I cold is headed my way. What a drag ! Drinking a lot of chicken broth and staying in bed, lucky for me today is my day off. So I am sitting here reading that my doctor say I will have to take Vitamins the rest of my life. Somehow I missed that. It is a little upsetting to me, but I can deal with it. What is happening is that I am worried .......I am I doing the right thing? Retracing my steps....... my mind is out of control. So far I have lost close to thirty pounds since I started my journey. I am sure you would all agree this is a major decision. From what I have been reading most everyone is happy with their decision. I guess I am a little scared to be honest my day is fast approaching. I am excited to think I will this tool to help to keep the weight off. I guess I am looking to hear others thoughts. I know it is a rough go the first few months and I am ready for that. I guess I would like to hear how you all feel and I guess get feed back and support. I have read so much and it seems very positive. Thank you I couldn't imagine preparing for this with this site and everyone here.

Just curious . . . why is the thought of taking Vitamins upsetting to you? My thoughts on your question is that you need to do what you believe, in your heart, is the right decision for you. You lost 30lbs and that's great! How many times have you lost before and gained it all back? In my mind, the surgery levels the playing field and gives you a better shot at not gaining it back. Good luck with your decision!!

Oh I agree, I was just surprised that all for some reason I thought the sleeve surgery was a way to avoid that. Small detail and not a deal breaker for sure! I am going to do this and thank you for your feedback.

Ultimately you will have to make the decision that is best for you, but I can share with you what helped me make my decision. I have diabetes, high blood pressure and borderline high cholesterol. I decided that I'd gladly trade my Metformin, Lisinopril and Lipitor for Multivitamins, Calcium and B12. I had lost significant amounts of weight before having the surgery, but it required a tremendous amount of focus and effort. Any time I lost focus the weight would come flying back. I decided that I was unable to keep up the amount of effort that I needed to lose weight and maintain that weight loss. Now that I have had the surgery (not quite two months ago) I am convinced that I made the right decision and the surgery has given me the assistance that I needed to get to a healthy weight and maintain it. There is still some effort and focus required, but not the miserable amount that was needed previously. Good luck to you!

Your apprehension is perfectly normal. I traded ten meds for three supplements after I got my sleeve.

I was sleeved April 20 a year ago and have been taking all the supplements as instructed and feel great. At my year follow up, I was told that if all my labs come back good, then I can drop back to just taking a Multivitamin. I would be doing that anyway whether or not I had surgery so I don't see it as a burden. It is a good idea for most modern, healthy adults (and children) to take a multivitamin.

Celebrate makes multivitamin packets that you add to Water and drink--I like them, and I don't have to take a pill that way

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
