So week 5. Almost to 6!!! But they still want me to eat every 2 hours and get 42 grams of Protein. I'm barely getting my Water. I'm feeling over full (I think it's the combination of the two). I will admit I'm happier now, before I couldn't take the shakes, retried Beans etc so I wasn't eating. Any advise? Ive always have been a picky eater. So just trying to get the Protein from the foods I do like. (meat and potatoes were my go to for every meal now I eat meat and try to cut out the sides. But I always feel like I'm missing something.) thanks for reading!!!

Your tummy is new.. Most of us felt full easily after surgery. It gets better with time. Take out your list of foods. Figure out what you like and can tolerate at each diet stage. Hitting your Protein and Water goals is important to stay nourish and hydrated.

I didn't understand. What you were trying to say about eating meat and cutting out the sides....?????

Always eat your Protein first. At 5 weeks post-op that is about all you will have room for anyway.

Instead of aiming to feel "full", my goal is to feel satisfied.

Eat slowly, take small bites, and chew thoroughly. You will start to figure out the difference between satisfied and one bite too many.

42 grams of Protein seems like an extremely low target. Mine is 100 grams, and most targets I have heard are at least 80 grams.

They told me to eat the the meat first then sides. How much can you eat before you feel full?

I was coached by my surgeon to eat a 1/4 cup of food per meal....3 meals a day at that point....moved up to 1/2 cup meal size by the time I'd reached 4 months. No real snacking. Just the 3 meals.

I try to either measure it out with the cup or simply portion out what I feel is the correct amount....then eat just that amount and no more.

I seldom have room for side dishes.....just the Protein.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
