Pains waking me up at night?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I was sleeved on April 19th. It was a revision from a gastric plication that I had complications with. It's now day 6, and in general I feel pretty good.. I am having one weird symptom though that is really worrying me. I still have general stomach pain that feels like it's my stomach healing up where they sliced.. But, once in a while, I am getting a really strong stabbing/burning pain. It comes on suddenly and it especially happens around 4am-6am when I am asleep. Wakes me up out of a dead sleep! And it keeps on happening intermittently until I sip on something. I have noticed that if I have some Soup or Water, it helps, but it's very painful and frustrating. I am so scared it's a leak!??? Maybe it's just stomach acid? Hunger pangs? I don't know! Has anyone else had any experiences like this?

A plication is like a sleeve, but no stomach tissue is removed. It is kinda hard to explain, but, if you google it, you can see what it looks like They kinda fold your stomach into itself and suture it that way.

Yes. I had sleeve surgery on April 18th and I have that same off and on pain on my left side. I don't believe it's a leak though. I've been following the rules and I'm not 100% sure but I believe things would be a lot worse if there was a leak.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
