Any one care to share their success story after a SLOW start?

Recommended Posts

I had VSG surgery on February 5. It has been 9 weeks, and I have lost 20 lbs. It seems so slow. I know, I shouldn't compare. I know, I should be patient. I know, I should stay off the scale.

BUT...

Does anyone else who was a slow loser at first have a success story to share? I can't shake the feeling that I will be the ONE person that doesn't lose significant weight. Just a little reassurance will help set my mind at ease :)

(Yes, most days I meet my Water and Protein goals. No issues with eating or drinking what I am supposed to, and I avoid carbs/sugar/etc. :)

Thanks

Kristin

You're right, you shouldn't compare. But if it makes you feel any better, I had "only" lost 17 pounds at 3 months postop. Eventually I ended up losing all of my excess weight and have maintained 10 pounds below goal for over a year and a half.

My starting BMI was 40, though, so our numbers can't be compared "apples to apples". But if you stick to the plan, get in all your Protein and fluids and stay away from white carbs you WILL be successful. In the meantime, give yourself a break and put the scale away for awhile.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
