general post-surgery questions

Recommended Posts

I am about 1 1/2 years post-surgery. I am happy to say that I have lost a total of 150lbs. yeah!!! I have a question for the one out there who have maybe the same situation as me. I am about 20lbs from my goal... I cannot seem to loose that last 20 lbs. I have only had one fill , 0.3 total in my band. I had that fill in April of this year and have not gone back since. I had a prolapse in my band in January of 2007 and had surgery to correct it, since then I have been wonderful and would totally do this over and over again. But I keep gaining and losing the same 3-4 lbs week after week. My doctor told me that it would be harder and harder to drop the last 20, he was not kidding. I have been extremely careful not to stretch the pouch and watch what I eat like a hawk and I think that is why this has gone so well for me. I really feel restricted with just the one fill in the band , so I really do not want to get another fill anytime soon. Anyone have any suggestions or has anyone struggled with this themselves?

I will await your responses ... Thanks:clap2:

I'm down to my last 21 pounds and they don't want to give up the ghost. I too am really watching what I eat but have decided that I need to amp up the exercise. I've lost 4 pounds in the last 3 weeks so I think the increased exercise might be doing it. Good luck and hope this might help you.

I don't know if this will help or not, but a close friend of mine had lost about 90 lbs and hit a big plateau and did not lose for almost a year! Well, when I started my preop slimfast diet she did it with me for support. She did the two shakes plus a sensible dinner though and increased her exercise. She lost 13lbs in two weeks and is now back on track. I know the slimfast is terrible!!! but just sharing what worked for her. Good luck, and congratulations on your amazing success!!!

My solution is not to set a goal. This sounds contrary to the conventional wisdom but for someone who has been overweight from babyhood to adulthood I don't care about some arbitrary number. Rather I want to find a maintainable range where I am healthy and happy and can do what I want to do without weight holding me back.

When I was on the Fen-Phen diet my doctor at the time had me tested for my true body mass. Based on it he estimated about the lightest I could be if I were a marathon runner would be about 270 or so. That means my skin, bones and muscle weighs more that the charts show I should be which is about 200 lbs. IMPOSSIBLE! Everyone is different.

I am not a doctor and don't play one on TV (only at home LOL) but my advice is don't be obsessed about 20 lbs if your body is telling that you aren't going to lose any more. THATS IT! Why risk getting discouraged and saying the heck with it all and slipping backward. Stay vigilent and maintain.

Just my humble opinion. Hope it helps!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
