Going back to school

Recommended Posts

I was on the bus home the other day and when we passed the high school I saw that they had a sign for Bay Path University. I've been wanting to go back to school and get my Bachelors (I have my Associate Degree) so I looked it up. They have a campus at the high school for their "One Day A Week" college. I talked to one of the Admission's peeps today and I filled out the online application. I even completed the financial aid paperwork, but I know I won't qualify. Luckily my work will reimburse me up to $6,000 a year for classes (as long as I get a "C" or better). The school even has a "deferred payment" program knowing that most jobs won't pay until after you get your grades.

I'm going to start in September. I'm excited. I haven't been this excited since finding out my surgery was approved. :D

Thanks guys. I have my Associates in Criminal Justice and that's what I'm going to get the Bachelor's in. They will call me back a week from Friday to go over some things. Right now I just need to get my transcripts mailed to them so I can see what they will accept for credits. They will take up to 90 credits. I am going to give my manager a heads up too, to ensure that there won't be any issues with reimbursement for the courses. ;)

Awesome! I'm a 41-year-old student myself. Tons of people go back to school later in life (not that I'm *that* old). You can do this!

This is awesome. It is NEVER too late to go back to school and this sounds like an opportunity too good to pass up -- convenient location, time, and tuition reimbursement.

What do you want to study?

I will definitely be cheering you on.

I taught a Freshman seminar class for many years. The best advice I can give you is to use a day planner. The key is: time management, time management, time management.

That's fantastic! I switched careers and went back to school in my mid-20's and was almost 30 before I graduated. It was hard, I had to take hard sciences and the math that went along with them. Once I graduated, I felt like there wasn't anything I couldn't do.

Between taking charge of your health and now furthering your education, there's no limits for you now!

Exciting! I'm going to school too after a 10+ hiatus ... if you want to call it that. I work at a university now so I can't pass up the fact that I get free tuition! Looking to Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences degree but not really sure what I would do with it yet.

I submitted all my transcripts to the College. You need 120 credits for a Bachelors. I was given 78 credits for my prior degree and coursework. I can test out of a computer course for another 3 credits and if I submit add'l transcripts I can get 7 more credits for electives for the designations I received at work. That means I need 32 credits for the degree! That's only 11 courses.....I could be done in a year.....WOO HOO!!!!!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
