Any Book Recommendations?

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I'm considering "Emotional First+ Aid Kit" by Cynthia Alexander.

Also "The Big Book on Gastric Bypass" by Alex Brecher

Do any of you have any other recommendations? My surgery date is April 12th, and I'm getting kind of nervous about food stuff after surgery, as well as dealing with the emotions that will come up during my journey.

Thanks to anyone with any tips!

Janice

The Emotional First Aid Kit was recommended by my surgical team. I've been reading it this week, and it's pretty good.

I wish I had read this book years ago but never did because I'm not a fan of the title but it's "Women Who Love Too Much". I am roughly 8 months out from surgery and had no idea how co-dependent I am/was prior to deciding on surgery. I actually have read co-dependent no more which was fabulous but WWLTM is really something I can relate to on SO many levels. Only now because I can no longer stuff my feelings with food do I really "get it." I.e. Why I have been stuffing those feelings for so long. Probably no coincidence that my last relationship was such a disaster that I gained 50 lbs in about 2 years. I never really got the connection before. I've also been reading OA literature and will probably look at the other readings that @@Inner Surfer Girl recommended.

I read Women Who Love Too Much and Codependent No More decades ago. Thanks for the reminder. I might need to revisit those. I also thought it was interesting that there is a book casket Women Who Love Too Much but not a Men Who Don't Know How To Love!

Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus is also enlightening.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
