Thinking about getting the sleeve.

Recommended Posts

I too am thinking about getting the sleeve. I was so against it but I am watching my mother go through it and it is doing wonders for her. I have not always been overweight I started in high school when I really started gaining weight. I played sports in high school and I ended breaking my ankle and after that I was afraid to do anything. So I started gaining weight and eating junk food and not keeping up with everything that I use to do. I am not at 309 at 23 years of age and it is affecting my life. I was working out but then fell off. So now I am wanting this sleeve because I want to walk across the stage a healthier person for graduation.

Why were you against it, originally?

One thing I would really encourage you to do is to look inside and ask yourself why you have been treating yourself this way. If insurance is to pay for your surgery, chances are you will need to show that you have given an honest try at losing weight on your own. What have you tried?

The sleeve can be a fantastic tool and solution for many, but it isn't for everyone. Good luck to you!

Oh I have been working out and changing my eating habits have never been a problem it's just seems to be when I get in a state of stress, and since then that stress has been released from my life at the moment. I was against it because my mother was going to have it and I was so afraid of something going wrong I started to be again it. I was so terrified that I made me have negative feelings for it but since she has progressed so much I have since then not felt that feeling towards it. I know why I have been feeling this way this is way and treating myself like I have been and that is how I came to the conclusion of wanting to get the sleeve.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
