I go to see the surgeon on 3/17/16 to see about scheduling my surgery. I'm excited and nervous.

I know I'll at least have a 2 week liquid diet before the surgery, so my wait isn't quite over. I'm glad that this lgbt group exists. I was searching for something like this. Glad to have found you all.

Congratulations that you are having your surgery soon. The toughest part is right now........the financing, the waiting, the endless appointments, the liquid diet, the nerves and the worry. Once you get past a few days post op, you will wonder where that first year went. Welcome to the new you!

How is your diet going so far?

Going a lot better than expected. The Water is the hard part. Not getting enough Water in and still having to pee all the time.

I'm glad that its going well for you, for the most part. I am a little worried about it because I cannot lose very much weight during my 10 day liquid diet or I will not qualify. If I lose more than 10 lbs I'm screwed basically. How much weight have you lost so far?

I've lost about 10 lbs but I have been trying to lose the weight. Exercising a lot on top of the diet.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
