Starting my pre op liquid diet..Help!

Recommended Posts

So today was my pre op visit (Surgery March 16) since my surgery is next week and my doctor told me to start a liquid diet Friday. That's 6 days till surgery! I've done my research and yes a liquid diet is mandatory to reduce the liver but I thought it was going to be 2 to 3 days before:(

So I was hoping to get advice to get me through the weekend and work. I can only imagine the Ogre I will become...(i've seen it before)

Thanks in advance

No advice from me. But count your blessings. Some of us have 2 week - 1 month liquid diets! ???????? I'll pull out my books of foods/suggestions from the surgeon's office and see if I can send you some pictures of it!

My surgeon considers yogurt a liquid. So I drank Protein Shakes and then had yogurt for dinner [emoji6]

Hi KristyVsg! It's actually not that bad. My surgery is March 15 and I'm on day 7 of my liquid diet. As long as you keep yourself busy your body won't even remember "oh I'm hungry". Lol! I'm normally chilled and in the house after work, but since I've started this diet I've been working out twice a day to stay busy and it's working. I'm down 11lbs. I just minimum my workout activities to riding the stationary bike and walking around the indoor track to avoid getting light headed or dehydrated.

I'm 3/16 also! I have to do the 2 week diet and its nottt easy ... those first 3-4 days really sucked but I kinda figured out as long as I drank my shakes every 2 hours and also drank a ton of Water I felt a lot better. Good luck to you !

If you use the powdered shake mix, you can make pudding by using less Water.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
