Introduction, excitement, and nerves

Recommended Posts

Back on October 22, 2015 was my initial consultation and when I decided to start my journey toward weight loss surgery. A little over four months, several classes, tests, and appointments later and I'm waiting for the call from my surgeon with my surgery date and the beginning of my two week liquid diet. I'm very very excited about the life to come, but I'm also very nervous about the life changes and the unknowns that are still yet to be discovered. At this point I just hope that my surgery date isn't too far off. I know I've waited this long, and had a wonderful life ... I'm ready to begin the next chapter on a healthier path.

Thanks. I got a call today. Three hurdles left before surgery. I have my final appointment with my surgeon, my final insurance approval, then we can schedule my surgery and start my two weeks Optifast diet. So close, yet so far away.

Congratulations!!! I got a call. I have an appointment March 17th to speak with the surgeon. Hopefully I'll get my surgery date then.

The waiting IS hard - partly because what's coming next is beyond your control. You can't control when things get scheduled, or when the approval will come though, so many other things. I'm thinking that's good practice for postop - we can control what we eat, and how much activity we get, but we can't control the scale. Hang in there!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
