Endoscopy Concerns

Recommended Posts

I had the upper endoscopy this morning and he said there was a very red inflamed spot on my esophagus and my lower stomach was inflamed and they took several biopsies. Was anyone else told something similar? How long did you have to wait for biopsy results. I am hoping it is related to acid reflux. He also found a hiatal hernia, which I know nothing about but he said it would be repaired when I have the sleeve surgery.

The biopsies are routine, even if they don't see any inflammation. They do the biopsies to check for H. pylori, which causes ulcers. And the inflammation around your esophagus could definitely be reflux. You shouldn't have to wait more than a few days for your results.

I was told after mine that I had a lot of inflammation, the doc decided to prescribe me acid reflux tablets straight away and that was it, he said I would be on them after the surgery anyway!

I am sure it is nothing to worry about :)

My endoscopy revealed the beginning stages of Barrett's disease. It is thought the hernia repair will improve the reflex . My surgery is this coming Wednesday... I am nervous

I was really hoping that I would find someone who had a lapband, then got a hiatal hernia after.

it is very very common for dr's to repair the hh before the surgery. Lucky you. after 6 years my lapband has alot of scar tiissue. . I am not sure but I thought I read that caffene is not permitted. please find out. alos I read that with all wls. we must chew our food like crazy. watch our carbs, and our Protein.

good luck to you new sleevers. Also before I forget., it is said that the best Dr to do a hernia repair is a bariatric dr.

I hope that someone who has the exact problem that I am having will write in.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
