Hi folks, I'm planning to bring my old beat up Galaxy smart phone with charger to hospital Wed with a bathrobe, that's it.

But the nurses are saying don't bring phone could get stolen etc. Gimme a break!! For the next two days it would be my lifeline to you guys and my friends and family. What did you guys do or plan to do?? please advise, I'm bringing it darn it

Most surgery centers, you'll put all your belongings in a plastic bag before surgery and it stays with you until you reach your room. If the hospital staff is that "grabby", I'd change hospitals!

I'm sorry! ???? I didn't mean to sound insensitive to your particular situation. Your idea of your fleece best pocket sounds good. All your clothes and items should be in your room you are brought to after being admitted to the hospital. (That's usually how things work.) while you are there, you might inquire if the current nursing staff will still be there when you are returned to your room. If that "shift" of RN's are still scheduled to be there, maybe-if you felt comfortable-you could ask one particular nurse to hold that item and return it to you when you get back to your room. Just an idea, only if you feel cool about it. And I still think the your best is a pretty good place, too.

They provided a garment bag and a bag for my shoes. If my husband hadn't been with me then I would've put my phone and my tablet in a pocket of my hoodie in the garment back.

They just don't want you to bring anything really valuable. They don't want to deal with liability for loss or property.

I think my decision would depend on why you’re not supposed to bring your phone. If it’s against hospital policy because it could be distracting to the medical professionals and it could interfere with medical care, I wouldn’t bring it.

However, the nurse told you it’s for your own good, so that it doesn’t get stolen. If you’re willing to accept that and take the risk, I think you’re perfectly entitled to. Like the others said, you can give it to someone for safekeeping or try to hide it during surgery. Hopefully there aren’t too many thieves sneaking around the hospital!

Brought my phone and my tablet. Two of my necessities! Also, brought one 6 foot extension cord. That was the best. Might need 2!

I had my husband hold my phone, purse, and hospital bag til I got to my room and then from then on I kept them with me and updates people, took pics, and Facebook updates. There's no reason not to keep your phone with you. There's always a risk

It could be stolen, but there's also a risk your shoes or underpants will be too...is it likely? Not really.

I know when my partner had surgery recently she had a locking cabinet in her room and they offered to lock up her clothing etc until she was out of surgery.

Kind of!

You will have IV fluids so it will be near impossible to put on a long sleeve shirt comfortably. But you can ask your nurse to hep lock you for a minute and let you put on a shirt then hook up your fluids again.

PJ bottoms are definitely a yes!
