I just told my sister in law and mother in law about my decision to have gastric sleeve. I was so

Hurt when they were so negative. They went on and on about people they know who have gained all their weight back. They are both very large women. I've decided to never mention it to them again. It was just upsetting because I didn't see it coming. Thanks for letting me vent.

Wow, how hurtful! Honestly though, their reaction could be the fear that you will no longer fit into their "fat" club. It could come from insecurities of being left behind so to speak. I know this does not make it easier but I respond to people that I think are judging, that I plan on following the program and rocking my sleeve. Then you can say thanks for caring about me but I really going to do awesome. Then during your weak times just know they will not be soft place to land. I think there are very caring compassionate people I this forum. This is where I will land when or if I fall. I say Rock your sleeve and only focus on you! Good luck, I am one week away and soooo excited!

You can't control people or their thoughts. Your doing this for you and they can get happy in the same pants they got ugly with you in.

I completely agree with @because. They are scared you will get skinny which is where they want to be! Let it roll off of your back. You are choosing to be proactive and do something about your weight, which is more than what they are doing!

I think they are trying to justify their reasons for not doing anything about their weight. Don't let it get to you. You are doing what is best for YOU.

They sound more like mother & sister "out-laws".

i have not told any family but my mother and sister for that same reason. you were hoping for support and got criticized. Its a tricky thing. i told a neighbor who also had it done and got flak. Was very surprised. I learned just to keep it to myself unless absolutely necessary. Its my happy secret and my benefit.

Use their negative comments as an inspiration to be successful and prove them wrong!

Look on the bright side, at least you don't share any genetic information with them (no disrespect to your husband)!

Definitely know the feeling. Learned the hard way to just keep my mouth closed about my sleeve plans. Some ppl don't or won't understand and that's fine but I'm not gonna let it affect me too much. It's my life snd body so they can kick rocks

***hugs***

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
