New here! Getting my surgery date Friday!

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

New to this forum but thought I'd reach out. I'm going to see my surgeon on Friday for my Pre-op visit and surgery date, which will most likely be in February. I'm super excited (a little nervous) and looking forward to getting healthy so I can be active with my 1 year old son.

I have a little bit of a unique situation, my husband is also getting sleeved. He's a little behind me because he hasn't been sticking to his plan and actually gained weight between his fifth and sixth appointment and the surgeon decided that he would not operate on my husband until he proves that he is taking this seriously.

Ever since my husband got the news that he would have to wait and we wouldn't be sleeved around the same time, he has gotten kind of sour towards me about my surgery and making jealous comments about the fact that I'm going to be scheduled and he has to wait.

Is anyone else going through opposition or negativity from their spouses or significant others?

Hi!

I don't have a spouse that is souring my experience, but I wish he'd consider the surgery as well. He said he will watch what happens with me and then maybe do it. He is planning on trying to lose weight when I am, so that's good.

Good luck with your appointment Friday! I just got mine Monday (its on the 25th), and I'm still having a hard time thinking about anything else than REALLY starting this whole thing!

Thats great you both decided on doing this together! My hisband thought about it but declined since it really doesn't take much for him to drop weight. However I would just continue to encourage him and help. You know some guys dont like to ask for help. They show it in weird ways that theu do need it :) good luck!

Thank you both for the encouraging words! The anticipation and excitement is too much to handle! After battling my weight my whole life (I'm 30 now), I'm ready for a new chapter. I will keep encouraging hubs and try not to get too sensitive to his comments. Men don't always know how to express their feelings! Looking forward to updates from you both after surgery!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
